Oh my God (if you'll pardon the expression in this instance)

New Orleans is under water and more dykes (the earthen, not bulldyke type) are apparently set to fail.

Anarchy is upon the city with widespread looting and shooting.

And the governor's response in the face of her State's signature city's impending destruction?

She declares a day of prayer.

Ok, here's the thing the MAJOR thing about Christianity that just pisses me off. This is a thing that when i was about eight years old that i figured out and immediately began my falling out with faith/god/religion. And if anyone can satisfactorily explain this one I'll tithe their god-factory, and kiss their ass in woody's.

Why when good things happen do people 'praise god for his bounty', and when unmitigatedly SHIT things happen, they um, thank him that it wasn't worse????

Here's the thing, if god is all powerful, then he's responsible for everything, if he's not (powerful ergo responsible) then he's a hack and doesn't deserve our prayers.

"oh but mark, god doesn't cause hurricanes/kill kittens/elect Liberals" i hear you cry. That's where free will and random chance comes in.

Er, Bullshit! I say. because you thank him when something good happens, but can't blame him when shit happens?? no way. Talk about eating your cake and fucking having it too.

so what do these Christians do when god opens an old-testament can of whupass on 'em? they pray to him. relgion/faith/beleif, is utter shit. pure, bollix.

um, but mark, god DOES cause all of the hurricanes and all that shit. just ask Job. what we're not supposed to know is why. yeah, that makes a lot of sense too.

I think the major thing about christianity (and any woshipful religions), is that these types of religion requires you to believe and have faith, not think. because to think, is to know oneself, and to know oneself, is to suffer. that's why christ died on the cross. so we don't have to suffer. we can stop thinking now, and go back to just believing whatever the latest priest is saying.

and those who do think, are supposed to join the church.

mind you, if you want to believe it, go ahead. we all have to believe in something.
