Light

I have a pair of wooden (late 19th C.) Chinese Buddhist Lohan (assistants to the Buddha -- this particular pair are sometimes called the 2 patrons and were among Buddha's first disciples -- to use relate it to Christianity). I've forgotten their Chinese names (have never known their Sanskrit names) and their particular strengths. Buddha had 18 Lohans in the end.

Anyway, I noted a shaft of light falling across the toes of one of the Lohan today so I moved him so the light would fall across this face and grabbed my camera.

Namaste!

Do you believe in coincidence? Or in the universe throwing things at you until you pay attention? Should it matter that this is the third time in two days that Bhudda has come up? Weird. Do you think that PJ's head would explode if he found out that for Lent I gave up Christianity?

The way how you used the lighting reminded me of how Rembrandt used it. Very beautiful.

I am not religious and our Buddhism is very different from Chinese. So I didn't know this much....

By the by, you might wanna insert several "<"BR">" tags without quotation marks after the photo to make the previous title separate from the first one. :)

Happy weekend.

Mark, that would be lent in 1984?

shigeki, those ceremaic Lohan are wonderful and beautiful. I have a ceramic lohan (the one that carries a bag -- in the case of the piece I have the bag is full of smiling children!). And thanks for the tag advice but it didn't work -- because, I'm sure, I'm a computer idiot.

Well, the rum toddy is interfering with my inner "art critic", so I've not much to say about the photo itself. You do take some remarkable shots, though. And to the point you raised earlier today: Yes, you're right--the second statue in the background is much clearer on a Mac monitor than on the PCs at work. Odd.
