Light

I hate flash photography, mostly because I stink at controlling artificial light when taking photos. However, as part of my night course I had to take a bunch of photos, had no time, so was forced to take them in low light, indoors at night and thus requiring flash. So I started to play with my external flash and the ability of my camera's built in flash to control external flash units as slaves and to do so wirelessly. I wanted to really highlight (if you'll pardon the expression) the empty fridge so I placed my remote flash in the veggie crisper and pointed the light to the back of the fridge, burning most of the white out completely.

This is the first series of shots tellilng the story of a hungry He Who is Here Now who remedies that by buying groceries and making chili.

The other shot is of him preparing to cook -- although he does look a lot like a kitchen pirate or Ninja chef, somehow...

Happy Birthday!

He Who Is Here Now celebrated a birthday today, providing an excuse for his most favourite of the food groups -- cake (flambe a la candles).

C'mon Winter, let it go...

By gawd the world was grey and beige today. Light flat through snow cloud and any suggestions of life thrown back into suspended animation by freezing temperatures. One killdeer was kil-deeringg-deering-deering and a single red-wing blackbird warning as I walked through the Rosedale Valley this afternoon, but the mud puddles were iced over and green ever so rare. Spring's taking her own sweet time...

Just a, ahem, little for lunch

He Who Is Here Now and I battle a bit on food serving sizes. His suggestion is always, "don't eat it all if you're not hungry." He does the vast majority of meal preparation. Of course if it's on my plate, I -- reverting to childhood and hearing mother's voice writ large in my limbic brain, chanting "clean your plate" -- always eat most everything heaped there.

The photo is of my lunch today -- that's not the serving tray, that's my individual plate's worth.

I ate nearly all but at risk of couch coma for the afternoon gave up to the eating machine (He Who is Here Now) about half my rice (brown, you'll note) and a third of my Korean pancake. The pot stickers, omlette (rolled and cut like sushi roll, btw) and steamed veggies (note my influence on menu there). A lovely dipping sauce of soy and vinegar and "llight your colon" sauce of some sort -- oh wait, I'm told the heat was in the pancakes not the sauce -- rounded out the mid-day snack.

I note that one carrot seems to be attempting an escape...

I've Finished Writing My Book!!!!!

April Fools! :)

(I haven't written a fictional word or a word of verse in AGES!)
